The 157 Group has commented on the proposed rates and principles for piloting employer-led funding of Apprenticeship trailblazers announced today by the Minister for Skills, Matthew Hancock MP.

Lynne Sedgmore CBE, executive director of the 157 Group, said, “It has been clear for a long time that the direction of travel for Apprenticeship funding has been towards giving employers more control. As a principle, we are positive about that, and we believe these proposals will enable some key elements of this approach to be properly tested. The most positive aspect of this is the fact that the new approach is being piloted and we hope that the government will be genuinely keen to learn lessons and, if necessary, review the process as it is trialled.
