ALLERDALE Council is on the hunt for new apprentices and employers to train them.

The council is supporting the creation of 10 apprentice opportunities at levels 2 and 3.

The apprentice programme is open to residents of Allerdale aged 16 to 24 and the first vacancies will start in September.

In addition, employers have been asked to come forward to offer apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships will be for the maximum term required to complete the qualification and employers will be able to access grant funding of between £1,500 and £3,000 towards the apprentice’s wage costs.

Funding for the apprentice programme is being provided by Allerdale Borough Council to support local employers and community regeneration.

Councillor Mark Fryer, executive member with responsibility for economic growth, said: “Apprenticeships are essential for our young people. The young people gain valuable, knowledge, skills and experience, recognised qualifications and earn while they learn.

“Employers can address their skills gap, with a supported formal training programme as well as the satisfaction of knowing they’ve provided opportunities for local people.

“It results in skilled workers, living and working in our communities, supporting a sustainable local economy and this is a real pro-active step by the council to put something back to help the younger people of the borough.”
