The Belfry is creating homegrown talent through apprenticeships

The Belfry is creating its own stars of the future after launching an apprenticeship scheme.
Staff throughout the resort in Wishaw, Sutton Coldfield, are being encouraged to sign-up to the work-based learning scheme which leads to a diploma – formerly an NVQ.
The Belfry has partnered with leading UK training provider Lifetime Training to provide a spectrum of courses ranging from customer service, fitness, food and beverage service, reception, hospitality supervision, housekeeping, cookery, and sales and leadership.

Emma Pride, HR Manager at The Belfry, said: “Lifetime was an obvious choice for us. Their profile of courses matched all the key areas within our business, and with such high success rates we know our learners will receive high quality tailored training to achieve excellent results.”

The apprenticeships will take between six and 18 months to complete and the training and assessments will take place during working hours at The Belfry. All new employees will also be given the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship as part of their induction training plan.

Emma said: “As one of the largest employers in the region we feel passionate about offering all of our employees an opportunity to develop. With customer service at the core of our business, The Belfry Apprenticeship will play a key role in supporting our staff to ensure that we continue to achieve service excellence.

“There are two types of apprenticeships – level 2 is the equivalent of five GCSE passes for those just starting on the career ladder and level 3, which is comparable to two A-levels, is for those aiming towards becoming team leaders.

“Apprenticeships are a great way to develop employees’ skills and for staff, new and existing, to gain industry recognised qualifications. We have already received a fantastic response and sign-up numbers are increasing all the time.

“With such a wealth of talented and motivated individuals in the organisation we wanted to offer them an opportunity to establish a career pathway within our business that was supported by structured learning. Ultimately we want our apprentices to be our managers of the future.”

Iain Beadle, Commercial Director at Lifetime, said: “We are delighted to be supporting both The Belfry business and their apprentices in developing new skills and qualifications.

“Lifetime’s reputation has been built on delivering training that closely matches with business needs and ensures the quality and value is of the highest standard. We are looking forward to working closely with The Belfry in the coming months.”

This comes hot on the heels of The Belfry achieving the prestigious Hospitality Assured accolade which is the quality standard created by the Institute of Hospitality for service and business excellence specifically for customer facing companies.
