Travel Weekly launch new magazine to showcase careers in the travel industry

Travel Weekly launch new magazine to showcase careers in the travel industryThe new prospectus-style magazine, called Take Off in Travel, will be produced in partnership with Abta, the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality, People 1st, Training for Travel and Travel Uni.

It will be published this autumn and will be sent to schools, colleges and universities to champion the wealth of career opportunities available in the travel and tourism sector.

Lucy Huxley, Travel Weekly Group editor-in-chief, said: “As an independent media company devoted entirely to travel, we have a commitment to the long-term success of the industry. Take Off in Travel will provide a crucial link between today’s industry and its future.”

She added: “We are delighted the leading firms and organisations in training and development will be working with us on this project, and with their help we will ensure that Take Off in Travel is an outstanding companion to the excellent work they are all doing to attract and nurture the very best talent.”

The first Take Off in Travel magazine and accompanying digital edition already has the support of leading travel companies.

The publication date was selected on the advice of Take Off’s expert partners as it coincides with students considering their further education and career options, and a number of high-profile industry events including World Travel Market and Abta’s Travel Convention.

In addition to distribution through colleges and universities, the first edition of Take Off in Travel will be offered to branches of Job Centre Plus, close to major transport hubs.

Travel and tourism is the UK’s sixth largest industry – yet many young people don’t realise the incredible range of career opportunities it offers.

That is why Travel Weekly has joined forces with some of the biggest names in training and development to attract the young travel stars of the future.

Take Off in Travel will be a free prospectus-style magazine targeted at those in education – from school through to university – and will offer practical advice on how to get into the travel industry.

Print copies will be provided to educational establishments and training bodies specialising in the sector, with a digital version of the magazine also available for further distribution among feeder schools.

The first edition of Take Off in Travel will be published in the autumn and will include:

  • Features on the range of careers available in travel – from sales and overseas roles through to finance, technology and marketing.
  • Details of the range of businesses within the industry – from travel agents and tour operators to airlines and destination management companies.
  • Features on how to get into the industry – including full-time education, apprenticeships and other vocational routes.
  • Case studies of people within the industry – from those starting out in travel to chief execs of FTSE companies.
