Apprenticeship was just the job for receptionist Emma
EMMA Lupton secured her perfect job through an apprenticeship – working at the college where she gained her qualification.
Emma, 25, of Netherfield, did an apprenticeship in business administration at Stephenson College, a Leicestershire college with a campus in Lenton Lane, Nottingham, where she completed her NVQ level 3 last year.
Admin role: Former apprentice Emma Lupton, 25, now works at Stephenson College’s Nottingham campus, in Lenton Lane.
She said working in the college’s administration team was the ideal role for her after spending time concerned about her future.
She said: “When I left school I did a beauty therapy course but decided it wasn’t for me. So after some thought I opted to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to gain a qualification but wasn’t sure what in.
“I had really enjoyed working as a receptionist during the beauty course, so I chose the business admin apprenticeship and I really enjoyed it – it was perfect for me.”
Emma worked at the college as an apprentice receptionist while studying for her NVQ and now works there full time.
The Post’s Get Notts Working campaign aimed to create 100 apprenticeships in 100 days by encouraging companies to pledge apprentices.
The target has already been reached after only four weeks, but we are not finished yet and still want more companies to come forward.
Emma added: “I think when people have the option to do an apprenticeship or go to university, usually an apprenticeship can be the best choice.
“I know a lot of people haven’t been able to get a job after their degree and end up with a lot of debt.
“I think an apprenticeship would be more suitable for a lot of people because you can learn and earn at the same time and it opens your eyes to a lot of opportunities.”
Emma has now decided to complete an NVQ level 4 in business administration.
“In today’s climate, an apprenticeship is an opportunity for young people to get out there and get into work,” she said. “University can’t promise that.
“When an employer is willing to take on a young apprentice, it is really beneficial to both of them.”
