TTE apprenticeship business director steps aside. Enjoy your retirement Keith you deserve it!!!
TTE Technical Training Group’s apprenticeship business director Keith Leslie has announced his retirement after 22 years with the organisation.
Keith, pictured right, who began his career as an apprentice with British Steel in 1968, was part of the team that established TTE in 1990 when it was set up as a joint venture company owned by ICI and British Steel to train apprentices for the two organisations.
Although retiring from his current position, Keith will continue his association with TTE by becoming a non-executive director.
An active member of the community, both in his native Hartlepool and the wider Teesside area, Keith has played a major role in the training and career development of young people from across the region.
More than 5,000 apprentices have been through TTE training programmes at its centre in South Bank during Keith’s time with the organisation. In addition, he has worked as a youth and community worker at youth centres in Seaton Carew and Rossmere.
Keith is also a qualified canoeing instructor and has introduced hundreds of young people to the sport. He has also led canoeing sessions for young people with disabilities and those going through Duke of Edinburgh’s Award schemes.
He has also helped raise more than £8,000 for local charities by organising long distance walks.
Steve Grant, managing director of The TTE Technical Training Group, said: “There will be many, many people working in the North-east and around the world that can thank Keith for the support he gave them during their training.
“I wish him well in his retirement, but am very glad he has agreed to become a non-executive director at TTE as his experience and knowledge of apprenticeship training is second to none.”
THE Evening Gazette has joined up with the National Apprenticeship Service to get business to take advantage of the huge opportunities offered by apprentices.
The region has a particularly high number of young people without jobs and the new campaign 100 Days: The Apprenticeship Challenge is hoping to help tackle the problem.
The campaign is backed by companies and training providers from across the region and the Gazette’s sister paper in Newcastle, The Journal, is also throwing its weight behind it.
