Virgin Media creates 620 jobs and apprenticeships

Thu, 9 Feb 2012

Telecoms firm Virgin Media is looking to recruit for 500 new customer service roles and 120 engineering internships.

The customer service roles, with new recruits to join “over the coming weeks”, will be based across the UK, although the majority should be in Manchester and Swansea.

These roles are meeting the demand of digital recording service TiVo, while the apprenticeships coincide with Virgin pushing its broadband offerings.

The 120 apprentices will embark on a 12-month programme in a firm that has taken on 530 apprentices since the programme started four years ago.

Job applications can be completed on and offline, and the firm is also visiting a number of job fairs, as well as working with colleges to find applicants for apprenticeship positions, a spokesperson for the firm tells Recruiter.

The spokesperson goes on to say that since “engineers are typically the first people face-to-face our customers meet”, the firm wants them to be more representative of its client base – as such it is “keen to have more women apply… it’s traditionally been a male preserve and we don’t want that to continue.”

Paul Buttery, Virgin’s chief customer & networks officer, adds: ”
“This investment will benefit a number of communities across the country and we’re particularly proud that we’re able to provide so many young people with a much needed start in these challenging economic times.”
